    I can't agree with his idea that we 'valourise victimhood'. I reckon Christians took the dishonour out of it, but look at the crucifixion. Was Jesus a victim? Yes, but then he rose again. It's like Judo. You push me and I let you, I'm a victim. Then I throw you and lock your wrist. Who is the victim now? The other disagreement we have is he cares NOT A JOT about the dehumanisation caused by Communism. His concept of history excludes at last half of Europe. I can't buy his take on colonialism. What about the Mughals or the Ottomans? That wasn't imperialism?

    Just started listening: re his point at about 5:50, this is something Theodor W. Adorno, a German Jewish sociologist and philosopher who fled Hitler's Germany to the USA, explicitly claims in both Minima Moralia and Negative Dialectics. He writes that, in the wake of the Holocaust, "a new categorical imperative has been imposed by Hitler upon unfree mankind: to arrange their thoughts and actions so that Auschwitz will not repeat itself, so that nothing similar will happen."

    Yeah but music plays a major role, intertwined with culture and vibes, with EVERYTHING, except for during the occasional decade (like recently) when everyone temporarily becomes too autistic to process normal emotions for some reason. (Shock of technological change?) So again, the music and ideas circulating in the culture weren't, and aren't such a monolith as suggested, by Tom Archduke of the Netherlands, who is lead singer of my punk band and still sounds great tbh.

    My Rabbi added another lesson that I think is VERY important: He asked both the man and the woman: “are you prepared to give up just being a man, and become now a husband - which is something different? He asked the woman the exact same question. Both of the people had some questions about what exactly that meant. But he would not let them get past this lesson before they could demonstrate a clear understanding of what their new roles would be, and an acceptance of them.

    If greater affluence stops people having children why do the very rich seem to have no trouble re-producing? We're not actually that affluent, the share of national income going to working people has been in decline since the mid 1970s. What's increased exponentially is anxiety as society has become more atomised and work / housing ever more insecure. That's why Ms Perry has become borderline hysterical about the amount of tax she pays - because that's the part of her income which she feels she can have some control over. That's why she engages in the politics of spite and envy against the elderly - i.e other people's family* - because she wants to take from them. She can't confront the fact that these ideas are seeded into the discourse by the same financial interests which has slowly dissolved the West, which plan to privatise everything and which are propelling it into war with Russia and China. I saw a series of tweets from her account interacting with an Austrian economics fan boy. Basically the contention was that everything was better in the nineteenth century when working people earned the lowest share of national income EVER, consumed the lowest amount of calories, had the least amount of free time, housing was completely unaffordable for all but a tiny few, there were no pensions, healthcare was unaffordable for most and public sanitation had to be lobbied for by the trade unions. I mean, what planet do these people live on? They just can't accept what their ideology of personal selfishness actually leads to, they're just bitter they're on the losing side of it now *they don't believe in family values at all

    The modernist are really just relativist that flit from one cultural vanity to the next since they got rid of their children. Demographic decline is inevitable once you abort your children. The modernist merely live off the fat/wealth created by massive economies of scale and their associated productivity gains. Once the population dips below the equilibrium of the economy of scale, the fat will abruptly disappear. Then suddenly, there will not be any modernists because they just relatively follow whatever the cultural tells them. No? What happened to the Aztecs, Inca, and the Black Death in European societies?

    27:54 - Please correct me if I'm wrong, but how could you think this replacement wasn't done on purpose. A country's government sets and enforces it's own immigration policy, or lack there of. The more migrants you allow, the more they're going to replace the native population. It's literally like controlling the flow of water from a faucet. If you turn it on full blast, a lot of water is going to come out but if you barely turn it on, you have a trickle.

      I think the point is that replacing the native population is not the goal. Elites mostly want cheap labour to replace a dying population. Discussion around 34m about Japan/Automation/Etc - We are choosing/allowing ourselves to persist inefficient manual processes by importing huge cheap labour pools, and then circularly justifying the import of huge cheap labour pools based on the inefficient manual processes. Look at societies with slavery (or similar abundant cheap labour) succeeding in the short term but losing out hard in the long term. American Civil War is one example - Southern manual slave economy with EXTREMELY limited automation bother because the labour pool is a resource that loses value if you automate AND automation is short-term expensive and economically hard to justify if you have endless cheap or free labour. However, automation is modernisation - during the civil war the North won quite hard on the back of automation and industrial investment which the south had been disincentivised from pursuing.

    • @user-rk9it9hz6g
      @user-rk9it9hz6g День тому

      When exactly did "we" choose to import cheap labour? British people have opposed mass immigration since it very began. It's got nothing to do with being reliant on inefficient manual processes, it's about ethnically breaking once homogenous nations and making housing unaffordable turning everyone into permanent renters. And Ms Perry's response to the latter is to play the politics of spite and envy by turning on the last remaining group of ordinary people still possessing large amounts of property: the old She's an immature unpleasant person

    I mean, I think you basically hit the nail on the head. I see quite a few examples of this myself, but I think it's true in the US as well. The affluence of old wealth is threatening to drown out the old American middle class that once looked down on the American working class, because their own offspring cannot afford the same lifestyle that they can. And it leads to political apathy, often towards the left. I do think some of the woe is me attitude is unhelpful. The American dream is not a house, a white picket fence, a car. The American dream has always been the following quote: "Washington is not a place to live in. The rents are high, the food is bad, the dust is disgusting and the morals are deplorable. Go West, young man, go West and grow up with the country." The west is proverbial, it's not a place, but an attitude. I think some of the defeatist US Natives have best remember that. The solution does not always lie within the government, it may at times lie in you. Europe has a sort of separate issue though that Louise mentioned, some major economies are growing so slowly, even though inflation is under control it significantly outpaces growth, and the same is true for population growth vs. GDP growth. So the countries are quite literally getting poorer. And you can't talk to a European about this without receiving some condescending lecture about how it's because their corporations care and their government regulations are superior and their people are better off. But with year to year growth approaching 0 pretty consistently for like 6 years and still going, I think they speak more honestly amongst themselves, and their conversations reflect frustration.

      Much of the lack of growth is due to climate change policies, and is therefore planned.

      There's the small problem of it not being possible to have infinite growth on a finite planet. "their own offspring cannot afford the same lifestyle that they can" - and the response of Ms Perry to this is turn vindictively on the elderly and blame them for society's ills rather than the financial and corporate forces which have driven down wages and made housing unaffordable

      @@user-rk9it9hz6g what you're saying sounds good but doesn't actually map onto reality in any meaningful way. Infinite growth is impossible but no country is near its absolute growth cap with all the scientifically possible innovations. The EU hasn't had near 0 growth year over year, not because it's pushing against the finiteness of its resources in any way. That would be an absurd thing to assert. She's blaming it on a very specific elderly that I think deserve it at least in some capacity. For decades, the upper middle class has sort of thumbed its nose at the lower middle class and lower class for complaining that things like immigration and low skill labor competition were real issues. Now we are entering a hyper competitive space with increasing stratification of education, a lot of the children of upper middle class people who don't go on to get the same educational attainment are falling victim to the same challenges they insisted didn't exist for decades, or were a positive.

    (Mainly for US) we ARE gonna have a major labor shortage, for almost exactly 20 yrs, without legal immigrants who we'll need to ACTUALLY assimilate. Edit: the part on 'how much labor we need,' might have been approximately accurate 5-10 yrs ago (in that we possibly 'had enough') but that won't be the case, beginning in the next couple yrs. The info and projections in these convo's just need to be more updated.

      @@grannyannie2948 The thing is, America's big, Gen Z is small, and there are about to be an enormous number of unfilled manufacturing/trades/labor jobs, plus lots of wage inflation. We don't want the chaos of open borders and non-assimilation, but we do need ppl. The populist sentiment rightly critiques the failures of governance, but it goes too far when it becomes strictly anti-immigrant, especially when workers are needed. Populists are just missing information often. As usual, must say I'm not in the UK, the size of migrant population relative to native, combined with the total hostility of new population and non-assimilation, must be treated as a real security concern. I'm sure no one's more negatively affected by extremism than law-abiding Muslims, like no one's more negatively affected by cartels than normal Hispanic migrants, no one worse affected by mafia than normal Italians, etc.

      You don't and have never had any labour shortages in the US. Full employment is something which has to be imposed on capitalism and your country is the most free market in the Western world. That's why you have tent cities and tens of thousands of people sleeping in their cars. The share of national income going to labour has declined and declined since the 1970s precisely because you have an oversupply of labour, pernicious trade union legislation, off-shoring etc.

    Another great show, you seem to be one of the few talking about things I care about. I worry about our culture going extinct. Oh the country may still exist but the culture I’m not so sure. Who’s having the kids? You can’t pass culture down to kids that don’t exist. We appear to be self-extinct-ing. And no one even knows nor cares. we have millions of immigrants trying desperately to get into our culture, and at the same time our culture is dying beneath our feet. It seems like modernity has a design flaw, it goes extinct. You can’t blame other cultures for having a normal amount of children. But even there, as they become ‘modern’ they too suffer the same childlessness. No one has any answers.. join the Mormons?! No. Amish?! No. Find a woman who wants to have kids?! You’re having a laugh…

      Gee do you think it's because people are so fearful about the future they don't want to have kids? The political Right in this country can never ever face up to the fact that they produced this situation. They said put yourself first, f--- your neighbour, think only of yourself, let big business do what it wants. This channel and others drips and whines about the psychotic Left but they'll never trace the money which funds think tanks like the Runnymede Trust back to the same financial interests which also fund the IEA, Centre for Policy Studies, Centre for Social Justice etc. This woman bleats about families yet tweet after tweet, interview after interview she rails against other people's parents and grandparents because they bought housing when it was cheaper. She screeches that the country has no money when it's got 15 trillion in assets. She just can't confront the fact that she's made her bed with the economic forces which are dismantling the West
